PARENTS ON THE GO FIND PEACE OF MIND WITH SHORT-TERM NANNY

1 OF JUST A FEW PROFESSIONALS IN COUNTRY WHO POP IN TO ASSIST FAMILIES WITH TEMPORARY CHILD CARE NEEDS

NORTHEAST CONNECTICUT – What busy family wouldn’t want Mary Poppins to drop in from time to time, especially when parents are called away on business trips or out-of-town emergencies, when they need assistance with traveling family vacations, or when there’s a new baby in the house? Martha Wetzel, a former teacher, child care director, and mother of four grown children, is one of just a few short-term nannies in the United States who is registered with the nonprofit International Nanny Association to care for children either full-time in their home or when traveling the globe with their families.

Wetzel started Anywhere Nanny Care business after her four children, including a set of twins, were grown. “I truly enjoy children of all ages and wanted to lend my expertise and support to families when they needed temporary child care,” she says. “It is very rewarding to be able to assist families, to make a meaningful and significant difference in their busy lives.” When she’s not on a nanny job, she lives in northeastern Connecticut; but traveling to care for children, seeing other parts of the country and the world through their eyes, has been wonderful.

Once Wetzel arrives at a client’s home, she says, “I jump right in, making sure everything moves forward smoothly. I go to the children’s tournaments, sporting events, and school functions. Whatever they’re interested in, I’m there with them.”LeeAnn Mill, a single mother with five children at home in Ft. Collins, Colorado, hired Wetzel when Mill went to China for a one-week business trip. She says, “She kept my kids on their normal routine with school schedules, activities, friends, spring performances and they never missed a beat being with her. The house was in order when I returned and all the kids raved about her.”

Wetzel has many repeat clients and receives referrals from them, as well as referrals from other nannies. “It is great fun to return again and again to assist families and watch the children grow. You start to become part of the family and they’re always delighted when you arrive on their doorstep again. The parents can relax because they have found someone they trust to care for their children and the children are excited to show you everything they have been up to since your last visit.”Wetzel is also called in to help new parents with their baby. “Quite often new parents need a little assistance and guidance with their newborn, and moms need to get their rest so they can recover quickly,” Wetzel says. “I work with the parents settling the baby in to a schedule, offering guidance about newborn care and development, and sometimes assist them with the selection of baby products or the hiring of a full time nanny.” New mother, Dasha Alexander, from Manhattan, NY, applauds Martha’s nurturing spirit, “She is a person I can go to for an honest, knowledgeable, and experienced perspective on issues surrounding baby care and guidance on raising children. She is a wonderful sounding board for all things relating to the development and care of children and I value her intelligence, insight, and grounded opinion.”

Woodstock, Connecticut, mother Leslie Meyers, concurs, “Martha recognized that our baby daughter had a condition known as torticollis. We were able to get her medical attention promptly and Martha worked with her daily to correct the disorder. “Wetzel says that her service responds to changing family demographics and dual income couples. Families are geographically dispersed and today’s baby boomer grandparents aren’t always available for child care, living active lives of their own well past retirement. “They’re not as likely to stay home and watch the grandchildren like the previous generation did,” she says.

Even if grandparents aren’t able to care for children, they may be part of the extended family with whom Wetzel works. Debbie Rosenberg of New Rochelle, New York, travels frequently with her husband, and needed someone to care for her then-11-year-old son when she first hired Wetzel. She writes in a reference letter, “Our time away included Thanksgiving. Martha prepared a turkey in advance, and took my mother and Kevin to my 92-year old grandmother’s house in Queens. [After] getting to know her and seeing her interact with Kevin, they feel they can relax while he is in her care. That means we can too!”

“The relationship is really based on trust between the nanny and clients,” Wetzel says. “We had a nanny for our children when they were young, so I understand the benefits and perspective of being both the client and the nanny.”Clinton, New Jersey, mother Donna van Weeren, says, “As a busy working mom, I have a new sense of peace that I know I can rely on Martha if I need additional help with taking care of my children. I never worry about a thing when Martha is with them.”It may not be magic, but finding the right short-term nanny can help the task of business travel, family travel, and newborn care go down in the most delightful way.Wetzel can be contacted through her website www.anywherenannycare.com.
